0Kalamafka & Timios Stavros Chapel

Kalamafka is an attractive village in the mountains near Ierapetra in south-east Crete. Timios Stavros Chapel which is on top of Kastelos Hill is one of the reasons to visit. There is a bit of a climb, سائن اپ 224 steps, but the view is worth the effort.

0Ostria, Thalassa & Paplinou Beaches

Paplinou Beach is a beach on the south east coast a little to the east of Ierapetra. The western end of the beach is for visitors and is officially known as Thalassa after the beach bar located there (not to be confused with the resort near Chania), whilst the eastern end is for people booked at the resort and is usually referred to as Ostria beach. The beach is long and the water is excellent and there is plenty of off-road parking available.

0Achlia Bay Beach

Achlia Bay is a beach in the south east of Crete approximately half way between Ierapetra and Makrys Gialos. It is one of the best beaches on the south coast, especially on windy days when the shape of the bay provides shelter on the beach and in the water.

Vai beach is one of the best known beaches on Crete, famed for being surrounded by a forest of palm trees — often marketed as Europe’s last palm forest. The beach itself is on the east coast and is fairly isolated from most resorts but it is easy to reach by car and coach trips also run there.
